Regular table salt is made up from just Sodium Chloride. Himalayan Salt also has traces of minerals. It contains all 84 elements which our body depends on!
Too much salt?
Recommended daily amount of salt is 6g a day as recommended by the Food Standards Agency. High salt consumption can contribute to high blood pressure, which can lead to heart disease and stroke as well as fluid retention. Health professionals have a very simple health message;
Too much salt is bad for your heart!
Regular table salt has been stripped of any trace minerals and contains a caking agent which can lead to a build up of deposits in organs and tissues.
Why do we need salt?
It is the sodium (ions) present in salt that the body needs in order to perform a variety of essential functions. Salt helps maintain the fluid in our blood cells and is used to transmit information in our nerves and muscles. It is also used in the uptake of certain nutrients from our small intestines. The body cannot make salt and so we are reliant on food to ensure that we get the required intake.
