The Himalayas date back almost 250 million years. Its unique crystalline structure was formed by the energy of the sun and intense pressure which dried up the primal ocean allowing it to rise up from the sea bed between tectonic plates.
This pure salt was discovered around 327 BC and had been collecting there for over 300 millions years under this primordial ocean. The salt was found to be the purist, cleanest and most natural form of salt. It was also found to contain all 84 elements found in the human body.
Salt was a extremely valuable commodity, and had the same status as that of silver and gold. Before the use of modern day technology and machines it was used as a natural drying agent, preserver and kept food free from bacteria, moulds and fungi.
The salt is still mined by hand over 800 feet below the foothills of these Himalayan mountains!
Pink Himalayan salt originates from the pink algae in the pre Cambrian ocean.
